Poverty Alleviation & Microfinance Project of Central Bank
Under the terms of a 3-year contract between SEEDS and the Regional Development Department of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the Training Division was selected as a training provider to the Poverty Alleviation Micro Finance Project (PAMP), which is being implemented in the districts of Matale, Hambantota, Kurunegala, Kalutara, Badulla and Nuwara Eliya. The Project, which is funded by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), is a replication of the Small Farmers and Landless Persons Credit Project (ISURU), where SEEDS was originally a Partner Organization.
This is to uplift the economic & social conditions of the rural poor in six selected districts through income generating activities, establish cost effective and sustainable micro credit delivery system for the poorest of the poor. SEEDS did the follow up process by formation of beneficiaries’ society and capacity building. And it successfully implemented SME lending programs in aforesaid districts. Activities performed were the selection of poor people, enhance group dynamics process through social mobilization, enhancement of entrepreneurial skill of beneficiaries using entrepreneurial skill development training, providing credit facilities and follow up services. The Training Division of SEEDS facilitated the registration of 23 Isuru societies and conducted the numerous social mobilization, entrepreneurship, leadership were done. microfinance trainings to the beneficiaries. Awareness programs for 1,723 clients(70% of women) under the development of new Isuru Societies Savings. 38 Maha Sabha meetings were attended by 1,801 beneficiaries and Social Mobilization programs & Entrepreneurship Development programs or Society staff.
