NOVIB Tsunami

NOVIB Tsunami Project Project -Livelihood Development of Tsunami Affected Communities in Southern and Eastern Provinces

 

 

 

SEEDS gained a grant of Rs.181.22 millions from an international organization NOVIB to support those affected people and this aforementioned project was started to restore the economic and sociological status of tsunami affected communities through the tailor-made livelihood trainings after doing Base-line surveys. This was operated in six worst affected districts of tsunami disaster Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Ampara, Trincomalee and Batticaloa.. The target population of this project was tsunami affected people in selected 101 GN divisions in above six districts. This project has consisted of PRA based base line surveys studies, participatory village planning, development of income generation projects, and reactivation of previous micro / small enterprises through implementation of village livelihood development plans for 2 years. In this process, SEEDS uses a participatory approach in identifying community’s priority needs and provide counseling, human recourse development support, livelihood development support by appropriate trainings, business development facilities, credit facilities and other necessary assistance to the most deserving people under this project within a period of two years.


SEEDS obtained a good database on these affected people of the GN divisions that SEEDS working for this project through the base line surveys. Hence, this database can be used in any tsunami related project that avoids overlapping of activities and also it facilitates proper selection in neediest beneficiaries. SEEDS assisted over 10,000 clients of SEEDS who have affected from the Tsunami. The focus of the project has developed the livelihood of those 25,000 plus families in relevant districts.
