Gemidiriya Livelihood project

Gemidiriya Foundation's Community Development and Livelihood Improvement Program

In mid–March 2005, SEEDS signed an Agreement with the Ministry of Samurdhi to function as a Support Organization providing facilitation and capacity building services to village communities under the Gemidiriya Foundation’s Community Development and Livelihood Improvement Program. Using the Community Driven Development (CDD) approach(this included participatory rural Appraisal, community based goal oriented planning, poverty wealth ranking to facilitate access to basic economic and social infrastructure services and support for productive activities, the Program seeks to empower community based organizations (CBOs) to plan, implement, manage and monitor the development in a transparent, accountable and cost-effective manner. Accordingly, the Training Division had embarked on an ongoing program of community awareness of the proposed project and mobilized the targeted communities to form small groups and clusters. The program covers the following Divisional Secretariat Divisions: Uva Paranagama in the Badulla district, Yakkala Mulla, Nagoda and Niyagama in the Galle District, and Hakmana, Mulatiyana and Athuraliya in the Matara District.
