Business Services Supporting Facility (BSSF) Project

The Business Service Support Facility (BSSF) has been established as a component of the small and Medium Enterprise Sector development programme (SMESDP), a project of the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Sri Lanka, being implemented by the Ministry of Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion (MEDIPIP) through a special project management unit. Of which the BSSF forms a part. The ADB funded BSSF project had 03 partner organizations, SEEDS, ISB and SLBDC, they provided services to BSSF to develop business development services to people in selected areas through Regional Business Development Centers.

SEEDS operate and manage the Southern and Eastern Regional Centers. It manages the southern center while Enterprise Services Division of SEEDS manages the eastern center. Potential Investment opportunities were identified through a survey conducted by both BDCs. Work continued with respect to BDS activities targeted by the Southern BDC managed by SEEDS’ Training Division. Stakeholder workshops were held in all the districts coming under the purview of the two BDCs with the participation of 434 representatives from various organizations in these regions. Stakeholders welcomed the BDCs as the fulfillment of a long-felt need for serving the SMEs. The BSSF also provided capacity building to BDC staff through training programs. Meanwhile, BDC officers compiled BDS providers’ lists for future partnership activities. As a preliminary activity, the two BDCs facilitated Resource Mapping surveys for the concerned districts, and handed over to the BSSF, the survey reports containing valuable information. This initiative provided benefits to the about 2000 peoples indirectly through BDCs
